Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theatre triumph in Cannes

“On Tuesday the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater triumphantly completed the 12th Festival of Russian Art, which was held in Cannes on the French Riviera from August 23 to 27. The final of the show was the La Bayadere ballet dedicated to the memory of the great dancer Rudolf Nureyev, ” the TASS correspondent reports from the scene.

At the same time, an unprecedented boom was noted. “Before the start of the performance, the audience literally attacked the Cannes Palais des Festivals: a steady flow of people walked along the famous staircase covered with a red carpet. Thus by 20:30 local time the hall, designed for 2.5 thousand seats, was fully packed”, the message said. “We conclude the 12th Festival of Russian Art in Cannes with a show of the La Bayadere ballet, which was brought to the French Riviera by the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater from Ufa, dedicating the performance to the memory of the great dancer Rudolf Nureyev,” said Tatyana Shumova, general producer of the festival, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. “After all, it was in this theater of his native city that Nureyev began his brilliant career as a dancer, and La Bayadere was among his favorite ballets. ” The performance, which lasted about three hours, ended with a well-deserved ovation.

The organizers of the project are the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Center for Film Festivals and International Programs, on the French side - the Mayor's Office of Cannes and the Palace of Festivals and Congresses, the TASS added.
