Timerbulat Karimov interviewed creator of film about Rudolf Nureyev

The founder of the Mustai Karim Foundation, the grandson of the great poet Timerbulat Karimov interviewed the creator of the film about Rudolf Nureyev.

The British actor and director Ralph Fiennes told his old friend why he decided to make a film about the great dancer Rudolf Nureyev, what interested him in Ufa, and what the mission of the real art was.

“Rudolf Nureyev is a very strong personality for me. When I read the first five chapters of his biography, I felt that there could be an inspiring film about the price of what it meant to be an artist,” says Ray Fiennes.

Ralph Fiennes spoke about his impressions of visiting Ufa and, in particular, the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater. The director explained that it would be difficult to shoot in Ufa in terms of finance and logistics, but he was inspired by the opportunity to at least visit this place - the theater where Nureyev as a little boy saw ballet for the first time.

“You know better than me that old Ufa is disappearing due to modern construction, and I wanted to see old streets, barracks and wooden houses. I tried to understand what it was like to live in poverty, in communal apartments. It was a hard life. So after that, getting into the Opera and Ballet Theater was like getting into another world”.
