Radiy Khabirov launched flash mob dedicated to Mother Language Day

The Acting Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov launched a flash mob dedicated to the Mother Language Day. The head of the republic invited everyone to read his favorite quatrain in his native language and post it on social media with the #Nativelanguage hashtag.

“It seems to me that it is quite a time to start launching your own flashmobs. The occasion is good and useful. Today is the International Mother Language Day proclaimed by UNESCO. I am deeply convinced that native languages are not what separates us, but on the contrary, makes the world spiritually richer”, Radiy Khabirov wrote on his social networks account.

He read the poem “Tugan tel” (“Mother Language”) by Rami Garipov and invited everyone to join the flash mob.

The International Mother Language Day, proclaimed by the UNESCO General Conference on November 17, 1999, is celebrated annually since February 21, 2000, with the goal of promoting linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The date was chosen in connection with the events that took place in Dhaka (now the capital of Bangladesh) on February 21, 1952, when students who went to a demonstration in defense of their native Bengali language were killed by police officers.
