Ural scientists will come to Bashkiria to study complex of caves
UFA, 3 July 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Natalia Ovcharuk/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. In July, scientists of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences will arrive in Bashkiria to study a whole complex of caves.
"This is a very important task, because even the Imanay cave [in the "Bashkiria" National Park], where many bones of ancient lions were found, was discovered accidentally by the state inspector of the national park. Therefore, during the year we collect information about new caves, and when the field season comes, we try to go to these caves. In the beginning of July we will have a trip to the Southern Urals, this is a southern part of Bashkiria: there is a series of caves in which, recently, Bashkir cave explorers have found large accumulations of bones of as yet unknown animals", TASS quotes a senior researcher at the Institute Dmitry Gimranov.
In 2015, more than five thousand remains of ancient lions were discovered in the "Bashkiria" National Park, which were older than their African contemporaries by 1.5 times.
