First 3D model of Shulgan-Tash Cave was shown to International Symposium participants in Bashkiria

UFA, 25 June 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Leila Aralbaeva/. The first 3D model of Shulgan-Tash Cave famous due to the rock paintings of the Paleolithic epoch was created.
The project was presented to the participants of the 4th International Symposium "Turning into Museums Historical and Cultural Heritage: Theory and Practice". Moscow experts described in detail the visualization tools.
336 laser scanning items were installed to create a virtual model inside the cave. Since the cave has a complex shape, 16.4 billion points with spatial coordinates were obtained.
These days, an entrance to the cave was photographed from an unmanned aerial vehicle. At the same time about 20 sq. km around the cave are subject to air scanning.
A team of 10 people works on the project. Total 16380 photos for detailed modeling of the cave walls sections were made in the main gallery of the cave, the halls "Stalagmitovy", "Dome", "Signs", "Chaos", "Drawings", "Near well" and others.
"It is planned to make a virtual museum and to broadcast the information about the cave via the Internet", a 3D scanning specialist Yuri Svoisky told the Bashinform agency.
According to experts, the data will later be used both for scientific purposes to monitor the cave, assess the condition of rock carvings, changes in it, the danger of tectonic factors for rock paintings, analysis of water supply regulations, and for educational purposes.
In addition to the museum, which will be created within the "Shulgan-Tash" historical-cultural complex to the 100th anniversary of the republic, a virtual museum will also appear here.
