"Bashkir Urals" complex is preparing to be included in UNESCO World Heritage List

UFA, 31 October 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Leila Aralbaeva/. The "Bashkir Urals" complex is being prepared for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This was announced in Kazan by the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky. He delivered a speech at the All-Russian Conference "Russia in the World Cultural and Natural Heritage".
The head of the federal department noted that the inclusion of the object into the World Heritage List was not only a way to preserve the cultural monument, but also a powerful economic incentive: UNESCO facilities are actually attractive for tourists.
The minister recalled that out of 1,073 objects included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, only 29 were located in the territory of Russia. 18 of them are cultural monuments, and the rest are nature monuments. Thus, our country ranks ninth in the rating of world leaders in terms of the number of monuments.
In 2015, 25 years have passed since the entry of the first Russian sites into the UNESCO World Heritage List - the historical center of St. Petersburg and associated groups of monuments, the Kizhi Pogost in Karelia, the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square. The list of world heritage dates back to 1972, and today it includes sites in 165 countries.
The All-Russian Conference "Russia in the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" was held in the Republic of Tatarstan on October 27-29. The forum was attended by representatives of public authorities of Russian regions. Bashkortostan was represented by five delegates, including the head of the Department for State Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Republic, Ilgam Fatkullin.
