Telephone conversation between Rustem Khamitov and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova took place

UFA, 12 July 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. Today, a telephone conversation took place between the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov and the UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova. During the conversation, the sides discussed prospects for expanding the region's interaction with the international organization, the creation of the first Geopark in the country located in the republican territory, the inclusion of unique monuments of nature and culture of Bashkortostan into the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Head of the Region also congratulated Irina Bokova on her jubilee and wished successful implementation of new international initiatives in the field of education, science and culture.

Bashkortostan has been successfully cooperating with UNESCO for 20 years. Thus, in the republic a number of important projects are realized in the scientific and educational sphere, as well as related to the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage. Rock paintings in the Shulgan-Tash Cave were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The UNESCO biosphere reserve "Bashkir Urals" was created. In the near future one of the first of UNESCO Geoparks in Russia should appear in the republic.
