Unveiling of monument to artist Mikhail Nesterov took place in Ufa

UFA, 11 December 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Alexander Smirnov/. On December 11, a monument to the famous Russian painter Mikhail Nesterov was opened in Ufa. The Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov congratulated the residents of the republic on the event.

The bronze monument with height of 3.6 m is installed on the premises of the Bashkir State Art Museum named after M.V. Nesterov. Its project was made by the Honoured Artist RB, the member of the Artists Union of Russia Firdant Nuriahmetov in collaboration with associate professor of Ufa State Academy of Arts, member of Union of Artists of Russia Vladimir Lobanov, based on the sketch by the Honoured Artist of Russia and Bashkortostan Nikolai Kalinushkin. It is a figure of the artist in a full-length with a palette and brushes. The monument was made and established at the expense of the grant of the Head of Bashkortostan.

The Russian and Soviet painter Mikhail Nesterov was born on May 31, 1862 in Ufa, in a merchant family. By the end of 1880 Nesterov became known as the author of paintings on historical themes. On his initiative the Aksakov People's House with a picture gallery was built in Ufa in 1909. In 1919 he founded the Proletarian Art Museum, later renamed to the Bashkir State Art Museum. He died on October 18, 1942 in Moscow. Mikhail Nesterov was buried at Novodevichy Cemetery.
