Unique exhibition "One Hundred Years. Forgotten War" is opened in Ufa
Today, on August 1, a unique exhibition "Forgotten War" dedicated to the great historical date - the 100th anniversary of the First World War is opened at the National Museum of Bashkortostan.
The concept of the exhibition is interpretation of events through historical artifacts. It was managed to collect all materials due to great well-coordinated work of the National Museum RB with military historians and collectors. Thus, Igor Danilov submitted more than 400 items: commemorative and veteran medals of the countries participated in the war, a collection of signs and cockades on headwear of the Russian Imperial Army.
Uniform of soldiers, money, bonds, edged weapons of the that period are also displayed. Visitors express great interest to a Lewis machine gun procured by the tsarist government for the Russian army.
The exhibition features more than 200 photos of military men, including a well-known set of photos and postcards by Ufa native Samsonov, who served in the Expeditionary Force in France, an archive of Turin ensign from German captivity. A special place is occupied by an epistolary genre - letters from the front and to the front, many of which did not even reach the destination.
Soon a presentation of the collection of archival documents will take place - a book "Bashkiria during the First World War", an advance copy of which was released by Kitap publishing house.
With the outbreak of First World War for the first time in history a general mobilization was carried out in Bashkortostan. According to the census of 1917 more than 321 thousand people were drafted for troops in 1914-1917 from the Ufa province, which accounted for 44.7 percent of the total male population of working age. Every second adult native of the province was in the army or in the rear garrisons.
The exhibition dedicated to the World War I will run until November 1. One of the displays is left free –residents of the republic can replenish it with their exhibits.
