Riga will host the first European Sabantuy

On June 7, as part of the "Riga - European Cultural Capital of 2014" program the first European Sabantuy will be held in Riga. "Vērmanes Garden", the central park of Riga will be a venue of Tatar-Bashkir folk festival. It will begin at 12 am local time, one of the organizers of the Riga festival Ramil Kadyrov informs.

The program of Tatar-Bashkir folk festival will be a pleasant surprise for everyone: Riga townspeople will have an opportunity to learn something about their neighbours, tourists and visitors will get new impressions, and Tatars and Bashkirs will show the beauty and values of their native culture.

The folk festival Sabantuy is celebrated over one thousand years. In Latvia, Tatars and Bashkirs mark Sabantuy for more than 25 years.

Vērmanes Garden is one of the most beautiful parks of Riga, where everyone can find a cozy place for rest. The Vērmanes Garden’s area is 4.82 ha. The park regularly hosts concerts and there are playgrounds for children there.

The main organizers of the festival (the host) are the Latvian Tatar-Bashkir cultural society "Chishma", Tatar Youth Association of Europe and European Society of Latvia Tatars "Idel", Kurultay of Latvia Bashkirs. Tatar and Bashkir communities of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic and England will also take part in preparation and conducting of Sabantuy.
